Kerala reports increase in COVID-19 infections
COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Kerala with the state on Tuesday reporting 4,224 fresh infections which took the total caseload till June 21 to 66,08,717. The last time the state recorded over 4,000 fresh infections in a day was in February. On June 21, the state also recorded 20 deaths due to COVID-19 that took the total casualties in Kerala, till then, to 69,917, according to data provided on the Government of Kerala dashboard.

Legendary Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a London hospital after his health “deteriorated severely”, a report in Cricket Pakistan said on Wednesday. The report added that the 74-year-old former cricketer, who played 78 Tests and scored 5000-plus runs at an average of nearly 45 with 12 centuries to his credit, was shifted to St. Mary’s Hospital’s ICU in critical condition.

Telangana techie shot dead in US
A software engineer from Telangana was shot dead by an unidentified person in Maryland state of the US. Nakka Sai Charan (26), who hailed from Nalgonda district of Telangana, was killed when a person said to be a black man opened fire at him on Sunday evening. His friends in the US informed his family about the incident. Sai Charan was shot dead when he was travelling in his car near Catonsville in Maryland. He was returning home after dropping a friend at the airport.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Managing Director of brokerage house OPG Securities Sanjay Gupta in connection with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) co-location case. Sanjay Gupta of Delhi-based brokerage was named among the key beneficiaries in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) co-location scam. Last month, the CBI conducted searches against brokers at more than 10 locations in different parts of the country in connection with the alleged co-location scam.
MP Assembly monsoon session from July 25
The five-day monsoon session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will start from July 25, an official said on Wednesday. However, the opposition Congress in the state has demanded that the monsoon session duration be increased to 20 days. “The monsoon session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will begin on July 25 and continue till July 29,” the Assembly’s principal secretary, AP Singh, said, adding that five sittings will be held during the session.

Afghanistan quake kills at least 130
An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 that rocked Afghanistan has killed at least 130 people in the country’s east, disaster management officials said on Wednesday. The majority of confirmed deaths were in the province of Paktika, where 100 people were killed and 250 injured, said Mohammad Nassim Haqqani, the head of the Taliban administration’s disaster management authority. Deaths were also reported in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar and Khost, he added, as authorities check for further casualties.

Earthquake of magnitude 6.1 shakes Afghanistan, Pakistan
An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 shook parts of densely populated Afghanistan and Pakistan early Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, with Afghan officials saying casualties were feared. The quake struck about 44km (27 miles) from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 51km, according to the USGS.
Five people rescued from flash floods in Jammu
Five people were trapped in flash floods in River Ans in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Wednesday and rescued by SDRF personnel, officials said. Gujarat Health Minister tests COVID-19 positive
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel has said he has tested positive for the coronavirus and is under home isolation. Patel in a tweet on Tuesday night said he underwent the RT-PCR test after noticing normal symptoms, and it turned out to be positive. “I am currently completely healthy and under home isolation on the advice of doctors.
